Got into a major argument today over the advantages and disadvantages of having a VOIP/Cloud solution over a Onsite PABX/Key systems

At the current or present time I don't personally see any advantage of having a VOIP system over a onsite pbx.

If anyone would like to post their experiences or hassles on both systems then we can discuss here

My onsite PBX is on the floor at the moment so can't speak for it...

Recently, I made the change from onsite server (Running Windows, on an Intel Atom, first problem), to Telecube's cloud PBX system. This was mainly done to remove several hops that didn't need to be there. Couldn't be happier.

VoIP is, as much as I hate to admit it, the way of the future, with the NBN, etc.

Problem is us old fogeys know that the Voip system is a fragile system compared to traditional telephony and it will never replace traditional telephony in critical situations. Could you imagine them setting up a POE switch and VoIP phones on a battlefield? Can you imagine it, "Run this cable to the forward line 2Ks ahead", "Sir we don't have enough switches to get over the 100m limit". Sorry to be so facetious but sometimes you just can't resist it!

Think its also the old techs like us can see that most of our required works is becoming redundant [frown]

Well with the internet having issues lately of being full then our works are still required for some time now

Having an interesting discussion here....

The hosted exponents are trying to justify a hosted solution in competition with a cheap second hand Key system like a Panasonic TDA30 or a Commander connect (for example) and they have at this time gone quiet on me as they don't seem to be able to counter the argument. Someone may yet manage to but I seriously doubt it. In the meantime, I will continue to bait them!

Ahh! Such fun!
